ST. GEORGE — Beginning and experienced farmers and ranchers with small-scale operations can learn more about how to maximize profits at a December workshop in St. George.

Kynda Curtis, Utah State University Extension agriculture marketing specialist, said the workshop is designed to help both beginning and experienced farmers and ranchers to refine and enhance their business and financial management skills.

“While small farms can be very profitable, proper financial, market and production planning is essential to achieving profitability,” Curtis said.

The workshop, sponsored by USU Extension, is scheduled Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in St. George.

Workshop topics include Business Planning 101, Loan and Grant Programs for Small-Scale Farming/Ranching, Farm Service Agency Programing for Small-Scale Operations, Record-Keeping and Financial Statements and more.

New or beginning farmers and ranchers, as well as small-scale farmers and ranchers looking to diversify their operation, should attend.

A workshop fee of $25 covers materials, breaks and lunch. Online registration can be found here.

Funding for the workshop is provided by USU Extension and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency.
